Recorded at Avantdale Bowling Club’s sold out headline date at Auckland’s iconic Powerstation in August 2019 – the album includes extended live versions of four tracks from his self-titled debut album – awarded the 2019 Taite Music Prize and Album of the Year at the 2019 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards – plus To Live and Die in Ad.
“ I remember walking through the backstage while Julien (drums) was sound checking. The big-boy backstage area. The one they don't let the supports acts into, with the big couch, fresh towels, assortment of teas, peppermint, camomile... and remember it hitting me like, 'shit... we just sold out the Powerstation'. Imagine telling my 15 year old self that. I was happy freestyling in the Avondale racecourse carpark Friday night with the T.O.Cs. I thought that was the big time. I didn't know nothing about a Powerstation. We used to sit on a power BOX down my old street. Bang on the side of it while we spat our little raps. Shit had a wasp nest in it so you couldn't really hit the kick drum too hard. But I didn't even know where the Powerstation was. Huntly? And now I was sitting backstage, cosy on a 5-seater, sipping a warm oolong, thinking 'This might be it. I gotta be proud of this. It might not get better than this'... “
